Horse Whisperer
ââ¬Å"Compare the ways personal experience is presented in ââ¬Å"Horse whispererâ⬠and another poem of your choiceâ⬠The poems ââ¬Å"Horse whispererâ⬠and ââ¬Å"The ruined maidâ⬠portray a sense of personal experience in their poems. Andrew Fosterââ¬â¢s poem, ââ¬Å"Horse whispererâ⬠tells us about how a horse whisperer was used in his society when he was needed but was then kicked out as technology advanced whilst Thomas Hardyââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬Å"The ruined maidâ⬠shows us how a young and innocent farm girl has turned into a posh and classy women due to a change in her lifestyle. In Fosters poem, the use of emotional language implies that he has a lot of love and passion for the horses he trains. The last stanza is only about the horses he used to train. The language he uses shows us that his feelings towards the horses will never change and that he still adores and admires them. The phrase ââ¬Ëstill I miss themââ¬â¢ suggests that he didnâ â¬â¢t want to go as he loved what he did in the past although he had no choice but to leave. On the other hand, Hardyââ¬â¢s poem uses modern language to make Melia sound more sophisticated. The first three lines of stanza three and now from the way she speaks. Line eleven highlights that as someone who was brought up in a low- class society before but is now acting classy and posh suggests that her occupation and lifestyle has become better when in fact it hasnââ¬â¢t as Melia is used by other men in her new society. Melia may feel she wants to go back to her old lifestyle due to her personal experience. Both poems coney a person being used for who they are. In addition, both poems use enjambment to portray their strong feelings towards society. The poem ââ¬Å"Horse whispererâ⬠uses personal pronouns and the third person to convey a sense of seperation in his society. The first stanza consists of the words ââ¬Ëmyââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëtheirââ¬â¢. This highlights that t he horses in their society were seperated from the narrator and the horses owners, as maybe he was seen as someone different. In contrast, ââ¬Å"The ruined maidâ⬠uses rhyming couplets every first and second line in each stanza. This strict principle the poet follows could symbolise the strict rules Melia has to follow in order for her to make a living in her society as she has to obey the rules she has been given. Her personal experience from before may suggest that the society she lives in now is so much different to old society. Moreover, both poems portray the feeling of pride. Forsterââ¬â¢s poem conveys a feeling of revenge when the horse whisperer gets neglected by his society. The quote ââ¬Å"My gifts were the tools of revengeâ⬠highlights that he is no longer going to be of help to anyone. The word ââ¬Ëgiftââ¬â¢ implies how he is going to now use his precious power of controlling horses against their owners as they treated him cruelly. However, ââ¬Å"The ruined maidâ⬠portrays a sense of jealousy. Lines twenty- one and twenty- two highlight that Melia comes across as a person that is quite a classy person when in fact she isnââ¬â¢t as she ââ¬Ëwishesââ¬â¢ that she had all those things that people would have in a high- class society. In conclusion, the ââ¬Å"Horse whispererâ⬠portrays love and jealousy at the same time whilst ââ¬Å"The ruined maidâ⬠conveys a sense of insecurity and hate meaning that these poems are not very alike.

Introduction to St atistics QNT 351 March 22, 2013 Merry GalloIntroduction to Statistics Statistics is defined in Statistics for Business and Economics, as the science of data. Involves collecting, classifying, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting numerical information. Statistics is more than just looking at numbers, there is a process involved in obtaining the numerical information. Statistical thinking is helpful as well. This involves applying rational thought and the science of statistics to critically assess data and inferences. It is important to keep in mind that variations exist in populations and processed data. There are two different types of statistics, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics utilizes numerical and graphical methods to look for patterns in a data set, to summarize the information revealed in a data set, and to present the information in a convenient form. Inferential statistics utilizes sample data to make estimates, decisions, predicti ons, or other generalizations about a larger set of data.Businessââ¬â¢s are required to conduct research in order to get their business up and operating. In order to conduct through information the people involved with the business would have to be able to understand and implement the statistical findings. These findings could be as simple as reports on wether one area of a town versus another is more profitable. Statistics that would be a little bit more detailed would be the reports for financial matters. If the statistics are good then the business decisions should be healthy and successful. In my line of work there are plenty of statistics being used in every department. As a bartender I am responsible for knowing the levels of alcohol in my bottles, as well as how many beers I have in my coolers. The portions used in the recipes for the drinks is me being able to use ratios, and nominal data to run a profitable bar. The restaurant as a whole uses stastics when planing the sch edule as well as the weekly order. If our numbers are high for a day then our labor will be scheduled higher than normal. If the projected numbers are low then we operate with fewer servers and cooks. Another statistical problem that could occur is when we run our of items. In this case it would imply that our projections were off and we need to concentrate on the next weeks order to make sure we are fully stocked and overly stocker in other areas. Research Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words - 1
Research Paper - Essay Example Exchange of a commodity between individuals with the aim of deriving mutual benefits or with profit motif is one of the available definitions for the term business. The definition however extends to multiple transactions and disqualifies isolated transactions, such as a single exchange in a personââ¬â¢s life, as business. A single exchange transaction or just a few number of exchange transactions like three times in a personââ¬â¢s lifetime, for instance, does not identify the individual as a businessperson and therefore fails to offer an accurate definition of business. A more accurate definition of business is therefore an activity whose primary objective is wealth creation through exchange of goods and services. This definition separates such transactions as sale of personal property as a disposal strategy because of lack of profit motive. Some examples of activities have also been identified with the definition of business. According to Maheshwari (1997), all activities in t he field of commerce and industrial based activities meets the definition of business and this includes activities in ââ¬Å"basic industries, processing and manufacturing industries and the network of ancillary services, distribution, banking, insurance, transport,â⬠among other sectors (Maheshwari, 1997, 1). ... Its formation is simple, requiring no formalities, and it requires small amount of capital to start because its scope can be narrow. The proprietor also enjoys all the derived profit from the business and has the sole decision making right, a property that allows for faster decisions because there is no consultation obligations. Sole proprietorships however faces a number of challenges such as difficulty to raise sufficient capital for ventures, limited sources of capital because of lack of collaterals, and lack of specialization that limits quality of goods or services from a sole proprietorship business (Kelly and McGowen, 2010; Gitman and McDaniel 2008). Lack of expertise in management and service delivery possibility of the proprietor overworking himself are other limitations of the form of business. The businessââ¬â¢ life is also limited to the life of the owner (Schneeman, 2012; Miller, n.d.). Partnership is another form of organization for business activities and defines a group of individuals, normally between two and twenty people, with a common objective of making profit. The form of business has advantages such as a wider capital base from membersââ¬â¢ contribution, possibility of rich skills and experience from members that can be organized into specialization, rich sources of ideas for decision-making. Members also share losses and this facilitates continuity because of reduced impacts (Pride, Hunges and Kapoor, 2010; Kimmel, Weygandt and Kieso, 2010). Disadvantages however include sharing of profits, lengthy decision-making processes that may also experience disagreements and unlimited liability of business partners (Sutherland and Canwell, 2008). Cooperatives have such advantages as low operation
Impact of IT on TQM in an Organization Research Proposal
Impact of IT on TQM in an Organization - Research Proposal Example IT today is a vehicle for making substantial changes in organizations, markets and the economy (Lucas, 2001). The basic purpose of any organization is to either manufacture a product or to provide a service to its customers. An organization is divided into various functions as per the task they perform to achieve the organizational goals. Organizations use various technologies for achieving this goal. However, IT is different from these technologies. Figure 1 below describes the role of IT as per Harold Leavitt. As per this model, IT is the central link between all parts of an organization (Lucas, 2001). It has a separate existence from the other technologies used by the firm. Thus, we can see that IT has taken a central role in todayââ¬â¢s organization. Some very big organizations have been pioneers in using IT to revolutionize the way processes are run. Chrysler is one such example. The company is an excellent example of ââ¬Ëleanââ¬â¢ production, a methodology of production that has revolutionized the manufacturing industry. This production system required the company to work with approximately 1600 external suppliers that shipped materials to 14 car and truck assembly plants in North America (Lucas, 2001). The key to lean production is the Just-In-Time (JIT) inventory system. The company used IT to set up Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for the efficient running of the JIT mechanism. This meant electronically linking all the suppliers to the company through the EDI and eliminating any manual or paper transactions (Lucas, 2001).Ã

Tourism Marketing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Tourism Marketing - Essay Example This pressure on the industry has been further compounded on by the operational environment on the supply side that has to keep pace with influencing factors such as the rapid globalization and technological advancements (Kozak and Baloglu 2011). This paper seeks to identify the various components of marketing in the tourism industry marketing with special emphasis on strategy formulation and implementation. As a reference, the choice destination that has been identified is the Turkish tourism sector. First, it is important to review the chosen destination. Overview of Turkey as a Tourist Destination Turkey has an estimated population of over 73 million people; the country is known to be one of the most populous states with a higher number of Muslims that is a member of the European Union. It has also been cited as one of the nations that is a cradle for human civilization. On the tourism segment, the country is a world-beater for destination marketing. This can be illustrated by the impressive performance of its resorts and destinations in comparison with other European destinations (Andreu et al 2005). Moreover, statistics indicate that the country has 16 international standard airports, over a million combined bed capacity, 9000 licensed touristsââ¬â¢ guides, 568 travel agencies and 258 beaches (Goturkey 2012). Evaluating the market niche based on touristsââ¬â¢ attraction sites, Turkey offers some of the best tourist destinations in the world. From the minaret filled skyline of the famous Istanbul to the Roman ruins found along south west Coasts, the country boasts of a variety of fascinating and memorable attractions that compares with the worldââ¬â¢s top destinations (Turopia 2010). Also of importance are the attractive beaches of the Antalye and the seaside resorts found along the mountains of the eastern side of the Black sea. The major tourist destinations commonly liked by most tourists locally and internationally include Aspendos Theatre, whi ch was built around 155 AD during the reign of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius with a capacity to host between 15000 to 20000 people. Next there is the famous Patara beach, a historical scenic beauty as it is considered the cradle of the endangered Loggerhead turtle (Turopia 2010). It is also said to be the birthplace of the 4th century Byzantine bishop St. Nicholas who became the legend Santa Claus. It has massive stretches of sand, which overlaps to about 9 miles, by coverage. It is also supported by ancient Lycian and Roman ruins and swooping dunes with no visible building a part from a small cafe. The mentioned attraction sites are just but a few among the numerous destinations scattered in different regions across the Turkish nation. This calls for a sound marketing research, analysis and evaluation so that an appropriate strategy is arrived at. This will be discussed in the following section. Marketing and the Different Sectors The tourism industry has unrivalled contributio n to many economies as compared to other industries (Tsiotsou and Goldsmith 2012). However, for this potential to be tapped at higher levels in Turkey and elsewhere in the world, it is important that there is an appropriate marketing plan and strategy that has been put in place. The tourism industry is divided in different sectors that require different marketing approaches. The Turkish tourism has been broadly divided into four main categories that include natural attractions,

Consultant Review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Consultant Review - Essay Example When we talk of fairness during the selection of officers for a special training or course, we come through several aspects which are faced by the selector which binds him to step aside the path of righteousness and select candidates on the basis other than merit and required attributes. Greed: This is the most common reason of corruption. Cash or kind is generally offered to buy the selector. Money is important to all and everyone wants to be rich. But service is more important than riches. We should know where to draw the line. Power: Having power puts you in a position where doing both the right and the wrong is in your hand. You need to utilize the powers entrusted in your hand judiciously. Remember, power also brings with it responsibility. Favoritism: The selector can be biased about a certain applicant who is a personal favorite of his. But this is not the time to shower your appreciation. You might be steeping over the right candidate for the job. Political and Bureaucratic Patronage: Believe in your self and do what is only and only right and then no one can force you to do something which you know is wrong. Do not yield to pressure. It doesnââ¬â¢t pay in the long run. But, this is one reason where you might not be in a position to say in the negative. Find alternate ways. Obliging nature: Donââ¬â¢t say yes when you want to say no. Every now and then we are stuck in such a position that although we know what is right we are compelled to take the opposite road. Police force is not your personal entity so do not let your personal nature come in between the path of your duty. Now, the question that arises is what comes under the term ââ¬Ëunfairnessââ¬â¢. What we might not do with an intention of being unfair others may cry foul at it. Employee Survey is one of a number of instruments used to look at fairness in selection. Perception of fairness at times correlates with other workplace issues. First and foremost what is required is a

A Case Examination of Policy for Natural Resource Management Essay
A Case Examination of Policy for Natural Resource Management - Essay Example In terms of public sentiment itââ¬â¢s understood that there is substantial public divide in regards to zoning considerations. The older residents of the town generally reject increased zoning and public policy measures, while the newer residents have sought a more structured policy. Adding to the dilemma are two major land use considerations; namely, the land areas in question contribute in substantial ways to the Albany metropolitan regionââ¬â¢s water supply, and an impact on the surrounding natural habitat. In addition to these natural concerns, there are concerns related to changes in the social environment and increased need for infrastructure to meet the demands of development. One of the notable features of the public community is that while older and newer residents disagree on the extent of public control the land should be under, they both are in agreement in regards to the sorts of preservation that should occur. In these regards, the question becomes more one of gove rnmental control than it does of disagreements over the types of measures that should be enacted. Even as the older residents oppose government policy measures, itââ¬â¢s clear that they must be enacted; as such, the following policies represent a compromise between desires for land control and the need for regulatory measures. Zoning In terms of zoning there are a number of concerns that must be addressed when deciding on a course of action. The most overarching concern is the balance that must be achieved between land-use and water supply. This policy reports recommends that a comprehensive investigation be made into the proportion of land use and water supply that is necessary for the adjoining reservoir. In developing a suitable compromise between old and new residents a zoning policy were be enacted with different regulations for current and future residents. Upon determining these figures, zoning will be determined along a proportion system. In these regards, there will be established a policy that balances resident seniority and land size, with zoning policy. Transfer and Purchase of Development Rights; Land Trusts; Differential Property Taxation While current landowners will experience a proportionate allotment of land-use within the specified figures, the transfer and purchase of development right s to future owners will be given increased restrictions. In these regards, individuals seeking to purchase development rights for recreational procedures will only be able to do so within the boundaries of the proportionate measures. Current land owners seeking to transfer development rights to outside parties will need to do so within the proportionate standards that are established by the water supply statistics. This will ensure that the base land needs for the adjoining reservoir will never be circumvented through increased land use. Another major concern of current residents was maintaining the current social climate, as well as the increased infrastructure needs brought on by the new residents. As a means of addressing these concerns itââ¬â¢s recommended that the regional authority institute differential property taxation. In these regards, outside of the proportional restrictions put in place for the adjoining reservoir, there will be no zoning that restricts the developme nt of a specific type of use. However, the regional authority will institute a quarterly tax rate that is designed to regulate the transfer, purchase, and development of property. It is understood that increased taxation on recreational land use will slow down development in this zone. This will ensure that a steady social climate is maintained and that the region has the funding to support increased infrast

Library Information Studies (course)-Describing and Analysing Information Resources(Unit)-Dublin Core Metadata - Assignment Example Dublin core metadata is useful in many in various institutions such as libraries, government institutions, scientific research centers, web page, authors, business requiring more searchable sites and corporations with vast knowledge management systems. Meta data serves the same functions in resource discovery as cataloging done by resource to be found by relevant criteria. Identifying resources and resources together and also helps in distinguishing dissimilar resources and giving local information about a book, web page or an album. The following are some of the core importance of Metadata. This is according to the book (Understanding Metadata pages1-2) that has carefully been examined.ORGANISING ELECTRONIC RESOURCE; a number of web-based resources grow exponentially, aggregate sites or portals are increasingly useful in organizing links to resources based on audience or topic. This is an important aspect for mp3 albumsââ¬â¢ such as the one we are looking at in this paper is there anybody out there also WebPages and eà -libraries where one can read a book like The Thief. Elements such as identifier are important in a metadata schema for interoperability and that is why it is present in books. DIGITAL IDENTIFICATION; most Meta data schemes include elements such as standards numbers to uniquely identify the work or object to which the metadata refers. The location of a digital object may also be given using a file name, URL (Uniform Resource Locator), or some more persistent identifier such as PURL (Persistent URL) or DOI digital object identifier. James Is Intolerance of the Catholic Faith Essay Example for Free
James Is Intolerance of the Catholic Faith Essay Do you agree with the view that the main cause of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 was James Iââ¬â¢s intolerance of the catholic faith? It was the lack of tolerance in which James showed toward the Catholic faith, but also the large amounts of tolerance to the Protestants in the mean time. James was, almost, too pleasant towards the Protestants and therefore angered the Catholics as he did so, leaving the Catholicââ¬â¢s wanting to display that the intolerance shown towards them was unacceptable. Therefore, historians are able to infer that it was due to Jamesââ¬â¢ attitudes towards the catholic faith that the Gunpowder Plot took place. Source 2 and 3 both agree that the gunpowder plot was due to James dealing with the Catholic faith with a very harsh attitude, also pushing the Catholics into taking measures such as ââ¬Ëmassacres, rebellions and desperate attempts against the King and Stateââ¬â¢ due to the King driving them to. James ââ¬Ëdealt severely [..] he took a lot of moneyââ¬â¢ which he, evidently, didnââ¬â¢t implicate amongst the puritans. James shows a lot of hatred towards the Catholics and their faith through the way he dealt with them. Source 4 supports evidence shown through both source 2 and 3 in the way that it is expressing the ââ¬Ëutter detestationââ¬â¢ he had of Catholicism and how he was happy to show his ââ¬Ëhostility against the Catholics in order to satisfy the Puritansââ¬â¢. James states how he couldnââ¬â¢t comply with all the needs of the Catholics which they present to them, however he made no effort to even think about contemplating those needs of the Protestants. The kings hatred towards the Catholics, however, may also have been due to the influence of his inherited chief minister, Robert Cecil, who from Source 3 we can understand himself didnââ¬â¢t enjoy having the Catholic faith around, being warned that if the harshness shown towards them wasnââ¬â¢t to stop then the king would have to intervene in ââ¬Ëmassacres, rebellions and desperate attempts against the king and stateââ¬â¢. However, Robert Cecil, down to his own despise of the faith manipulated the situation, applying a larger amount of pressure upon James to continue to treat the Catholics with a harsh manner, shown in source 5, ââ¬ËCecil used every opportunity to infer to James that the popes were rivals to his authority [] something James could not tolerateââ¬â¢. Source 5, unlike source 3, states how Cecil was a ââ¬Ëstaunch protestantââ¬â¢ seeing the Catholics as being ââ¬Ëtantamount to traitorsââ¬â¢ due to their beliefs opposing the king by referring back to the pope, although they both show that Robert Cecil is using his own viewpoint to affect the way in which the King undertake the ââ¬Ëissueââ¬â¢ of the Catholic faith, just in diverse ways, and therefore a possible cause of the gunpowder plot, which many historians would argue, was due to Jamesââ¬â¢ ministers themselves, influencing the kings beliefs and ideals. Robert Cecil through his influence over the king shown in source 5 can also be supported in source 1 with him stating that the King has been too tolerable of the Catholics and how the king should be harsher towards them and how ââ¬Ëthe Kingââ¬â¢s excessive kindnessââ¬â¢ has resulted to ââ¬Ëpriests preach that Catholics much kill the Kings to help their religionââ¬â¢, and therefore wasnââ¬â¢t Jamesââ¬â¢ intolerance of the Catholics that caused the Gunpowder plot but the tolerance he showed them instead. Many Catholics would say that due to Jamesââ¬â¢ deliberately publicly announcing his ââ¬Ëutter detestationââ¬â¢ of their faith that James deserved the plot to be against him due to the harshness shown towards their faith and beliefs, which we are able to infer via source 4 telling historians that ââ¬Ëall priests [] had been expelled and recusancy fines introducedââ¬â¢. Overall through the sources historians are able to infer that James showed a large intolerance towards the Catholic faith, whether it be through him own ideals or influenced by other, which then pushed them into believing that performing the Gunpowder plot upon the Houses of Parliament was for the greater good of their religion, and therefore the main cause of the gunpowder plot of 1604 was King Jamesââ¬â¢ intolerance for the Catholic faith.
